My New Telefunken Plasma TV
I finally subdued to my longing itch for a Plasma TV and went and bought myself one. The 21 inch tube was not cutting it any more, so I decided to buy a Telefunken 42 inch Plasma TV.

Upon delivery I fired it up and was immediately impressed with the crisp picture.
DVD / Decoder input playback produced equally excellent pictures.
The next thing was to Google the model number TPM-107A, to find out more about it. To my shock I got one result returned to me. It turns out, I bought a not so popular TV model. Not a problem….I hope.
Some of the Specs are as follows:
My journey of exploration continued as I hooked it up to my Laptop via the VGA port behind the unit.
The TV does not display images coming from the VGA input well. I tried to adjust the picture but to no avail. I discovered the spectrum from dark grey to black is not rendered correctly when VGA input is used.
This is shown in the two images comparing the same DVD played from the DVD player and from the Computer though VGA input.

Fig 2: Input From DVD-Player
Looks like I will not be using it much as a computer display.
The last issue is the light hissing sound I can hear in the background when I am close to the TV. Researching the issue reveals sounds ranging from a light hiss to a audible buzz are expected when plasma screens operates above sea level. Placing my Garmin (GPS) on the TV cabinet reveals that its operating at altitude 1 678m
Other than this I am very happy with my new TV.

Never seen a 50″ Telefunken model but if you are in SA try House and Home.
BUT then again why buy a 50″ Telefunken.
50 ” is pretty high-end and I would rather go for an LG or Sony
