About the NoFollow Attribute.
My journey towards becoming a Webmaster has been an interesting one so far.
There have been ups and downs but the greatest down so far has been the discovery of the ‘NoFollow’ attribute.
I came across this article on nofollow.
After reading it I realised how many countless hours I had wasted commenting religiously on forums and blog articles. Unknown to me, was that my links were added to these sites with a ‘NoFollow’ atribute
For those that do not know yet(newbies like me).
The nofollow atrribute is included in html code as follows
<a href = "http://www.mysite.com" rel="nofollow"> my Site </a>
When someone links to your site as shown above it has zero boosting effect on your PageRank(tm) This is not only for Google but several other search engines.
All the SEO articles mention that I can gain backlinks through forum posts, listings and article comments but they assumed I already knew about the ‘NoFollow’ tag.
This message never got across to me and I spent so much time trying to get backlinks through article comments, directory listings and forum posts that link with the ‘NoFollow’ tag.
So sad …is it not, but I continue to learn something new each day.
