Backing up you WordPress Blog
I can’t believe I have been blogging for a year now and today is the first time I have ever backed up my blog. I was just being negligent but there are many bloggers that have faith in their web hosts to do their backup and restores for them.
The big question is ‘what if a unrecoverable disaster occurs ?’. Hosting providers have their backs totally covered by legal disclaimers hence you would have yourself to blame if a total wipeout happens.
Backup a WordPress blog involves two steps:
Backing Up WordPress Database.(For Godaddy Customers)
Backups of WordPress blog data is simple if your hosting provider gives you access to the phpMyAdmin interface. All you really have to do is export the database to any one of many formats. I prefer the default SQL FORMAT
Login to you WordPress Database and click on ‘Export’ as shown in the image below

2. Choose the format that you wish to save the Exported database.

Under the ‘Save File As’. Select Gzip. Click ‘Go’. A download box will then appear giving you the option to download a Zipped .SQL file. This file is the backup of your Wordpress Database content and structure. Download this file and keep it somewhere safe.
Backing up of WordPress files (Images, plugins e.t.c)
1. Using you favourite FTP client(FileZilla, SmartFTP, goFTP e.t.c) program login to you hosting account.
2. Download the entire contents of you blog’s home directory to a local directory.
As you can see it is very simple to backup your blog.
