Sitemaps for Wordpress Blogs
A site map describes the structure of your website to visitors. A quick glance at a sitemap will let the visitor know how pages are arranged in different categories. Beside helping ‘human’ users the sitemap is very useful for search engine spiders . When the spider trawls your website a sitemap offers it a direct path to all your website’s content. Sitemaps are therefore of great importance to any website/blog.
Google also accepts the atom feed URL as a sitemap, but the industry standard XML sitemap is accepted by search engines like Yahoo so I decided to give the Wordpress sitemap generator plugin a try.
Wordpress has an XML sitemap generator that is currently unavailable at the link provided on Google Help pages but can be found here
Installation is simple as with all Wordpress plugins and installation instructions for the sitemap generator can be found here
After creating the sitemap submit it to Google using your Google Webmasters Tools Account. I found the whole process very simple and my new sitemap can be found here.
I also put a small link to my sitemap at in the footer of every page
