WTF is it with Conime.exe ??
Every time my PC boots it gives an error message that says: “Windows cannot find ‘C:\Windows\Sytstem32\Drivers\conime.exe…..’”.
I did a file search on my pc for ‘conime.exe’ and found it only exists in the folder ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32′ and not in ‘C:\Windows\Sytstem32\Drivers’. This could just be a case of wrong registry entry.
Further research revealed that conime.exe was indeed a valid Windows XP file. The description under file properties says ‘Console Input Method Editor(IME)’ (hence the name con-ime).
This function of conime.exe is to support of Asian character input for Windows. For more information about Input Method Editors visit Microsoft.
Verifying Authenticity of Conime.exe
The problem now was that doubt had been seeded into my mind by websites pointing out that conime.exe could be a trojan file masquerading (duh) as a legit Windows file.
The only option now was to verify the authenticity of my conime.exe file.
For this I used programchecker on www.programchecker.com (Active-X install required for this !!)

ProgramChecker verified the file to be legit so my next step was to fix Windows so that it does not look for it in the folder ‘C:\Windows\Sytstem32\Drivers\’ but in its default location ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32′
How to make sure conime.exe starts up.
1. Click Start> Run> type regedit > click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3. In the right panel, right-click the blank space, and then click New. Click String Value, type conime as the name, and then press ENTER.
4. Right-click conime, and then click Modify.
5. In the Edit String dialog box type %windir%\system32\conime.exe under Value data, and then click OK.
6. Closed regedit.
