Changing the Kubrick Theme Header Image

The kubrick theme comes with the standard blue rectangle as the header background image. Thousands of blogs on the internet use the blue header. If you have a need to stick out from the crowd I suggest you change this header image.

Changing this image is very simple.
This image is stored in the folder /wp-content/themes/classic/images/kubrickheader.png
Download this image and open it using your favourite image editor. The header for this blog was edited using GIMP which can be downloaded here.

When editing the image you should keep it at its original size and make sure whatever changes you are making blend with the rest of the Kubrick theme (Unless you are going to change that as well)

There is also an interesting tool dubbed kubrickr that can be found at redalt that can be used to generate headers by cropping images from flickr.com. Kubrickr is free to use. Images sourced on Flickr are royalty free under the creative commons attribution non-commercial licenses..

Things to watch out for

  • Images found on flickr are of high definition and take up more disk space. Be aware of this if you blog is hosted by a slow host. The original Kubrick header is only 8kb. Your new header will be 40kb + depending on the image used.
  • The image header serves as a background to your site name. If a non-contrasting image is used you have to change the font color for your site name, otherwise use images that contrast with the font color of your site heading.
  • Creative commons attribution means you have to mention/ attribute the owner of the image you have used somewhere on your blog.
